WORD FROM THE WORKBENCH
Having viewed the story again 'Revenge of the Cybermen' we really couldn’t decide weather to produce a statue of the standard Cyberman or of the Cyberleader.
Then some bright spark suggested – "Why don’t we do both!"
We thought it would be a great idea as the two figures would complement each other and look great together on display.
The one thing we felt was very important was that these were to be two completely different sculpts – not simply the same statue with the helmet painted black on one. They had to look distinctly different.
The pose for the Cyberleader was a tough one. On viewing the show the most regular pose he struck was a rather camp one with his hands on his hips! – Not that there's anything wrong with that – it just doesn't look very threatening in a 'We are going to destroy you!' kind of way.
We thought about having him with one hand on his chest panel operating his 'helmet blaster' but again, not very dynamic.
We kept coming back to the bomb that the Cyberleader brandishes, but were worried that because the actual prop was a little basic to say the least that again it would be very unexciting as a pose.
How wrong we were – what Sarah came up with is just fantastic – it's all in the subtlety – the way the bomb is held, the way in which he is gesturing towards it with is other hand and check out the tiny 'oscilloscope' on the bomb!– it just looks great and completely captures the feel of the story. We couldn't be happier with the result.
We also considered releasing these two figures as a twin boxed set, however, after some thought, it occurred to us that collectors might want to purchase more than one Cyberman to create a 'scene'. Sold individually this would enable them to do so.
